TED Talk Tuesday #222: How to get better at the things you care about
TED continues to spread ideas and help us all be better, critical thinkers. Watching, listening and talking about TED Talks is a popular pastime for many in the CN&CO community. We visit TED.com regularly to clear our heads, have a laugh, learn or get inspired. TED Talks open our minds, spark new ways of thinking and can lead to some very interesting conversations and business opportunities. It’s also a way that the CN&CO team play their part in spreading ideas and helping to make the world a better place. This week’s post is by Alex Heath, a marketing graduate doing work with a couple of our partners.
I came across this Ted Talk at The Gordon Institute of Business Science. It was my first time engaging in such a concept. It was an eye opener and a great learning experience for me as I was not aware of the value of such a concept and the positive impact it can have on one’s everyday life.
This TED Talk by Eduardo Briceño outlines the importance of being aware of the two zones in one’s personal development and growth – the learning zone and the performance zone.
The key to adopting an aspect of a growth mindset is to continuously transition between the learning and performance zones. The concept is that through this process, one is able to reflect on areas of weakness in the performance zone and address these weaknesses in the learning zone.
The goal is to apply the improved knowledge and practices from the learning zone in the performance zone. This learn-and-adapt approach enables maximum performance within the certain areas that have been mastered through learning and development.
Do we have the correct mindset that allows us to identify certain areas where we can improve on performance? This lends itself to the psychological safety of the environment you find yourself in. Through the acceptance and understanding that there is a wealth of untouched knowledge available to you, you allow yourself to embrace continuous learning leading to personal growth.
I found Eduardo Briceño’s TED Talk to be informative and very current as to how we should go about achieving our full potential in life. Enjoy!
