There are daily newsletters, and then there are daily newsletters. As avid readers, we at CN&CO subscribe to many of them. One of our favourites is the FAnews Daily Newsletter, which keeps us up to speed on news and events in the insurance industry.

The newsletter from Monday, 5 August is a case in point. It shares an article written by Gareth Stokes on the crucial role of collaboration and innovation in the non-life insurance industry. This point was driven home during the African Insurance Exchange (AIE) 2024 conference by Dawn Miller, commercial director at Lloyd’s (pictured below). In her talk, Dawn reminded delegates how the insurance industry has evolved, driven by entrepreneurs and innovators, to address increasingly complex risks like cyber threats, natural catastrophes and the adoption of AI.

Dawn pointed out that while AI presents new risks, it also offers opportunities for improved risk management. She stressed the importance of collaboration among insurers, policymakers, and risk managers to navigate these challenges and harness innovation effectively. Dawn also highlighted Africa’s growing role in the global insurance ecosystem.

The article concludes by encouraging members of the insurance industry to embrace innovation and collaboration, as these are key to staying resilient in the face of rapidly evolving risks.
