Finding connection on the Rim of Africa

By Blake Dyason, CN&CO

When I’m not working with CN&CO clients on marketing strategy, you’ll usually find me somewhere in the mountains. I’m a qualified mountain guide, and the wild has always been my happy place. Recently, I got to recce Traverse 9 of the Rim of Africa – and wow, what a journey though the Outeniqua Mountain Range.

For those who don’t know, Rim of Africa is South Africa’s ultimate multi-day hike. It’s the country’s longest hiking route, stretching across the Cape Fold Mountains from the northern Cederberg all the way to the Outeniqua just outside George. But here’s the thing: it’s not just a hike.

Most of the time, we’re off trail, reading the mountains and weather to pick the best line. We cross valleys, follow ridgelines, and stumble upon natural rockpools, rivers, and waterfalls that beg for a swim. There are silent moments where the views stop you in your tracks, and others filled with laughter around dinner, sharing the journey with a small group of like-minded adventurers.

What makes Rim of Africa so special is how it reconnects us. Not to the city, not to our phones, but to ourselves, to mother nature, and to each other. For some it becomes a healing journey, for others its a journey of discovery and even a new beginning. There is something magical that happens when we step into nature with an open heart and clear mind.

The 2025 journey kicks off in the northern Cederberg on 24 September. Each traverse is limited to just 12 guests, and while most are already full, there are still a few spots open.

If you’re looking for an epic adventure, or just a way to reset and reconnect, I can’t recommend Rim of Africa enough. Check it out, book your spot.
