The Insurance Apprentice winners start their EasyEquities journeys

The 2025 Insurance Apprentice winners didn’t just walk away with bragging rights – they started investing.

EasyEquities’ Carly Esterhuizen sat down with this year’s top three – winner Khaya Mashologu, runner-up Mmabatho Letoaba, and third-placed Darius Wyngaardt – to chat about what they’re investing in, how they think about risk, and why insurance and investing make such a good pair.

Each of the finalists received cash in their EasyEquities investment accounts as part of their prize from The Insurance Apprentice and EasyEquities, giving them a head start on their investing journeys. For Carly, it was a chance to see how the next generation of insurance professionals are thinking about their money… and their future.

“These young professionals are already thinking about long-term growth and financial freedom,” says Carly. “They’re confident, curious and keen to learn, which is exactly the mindset that makes for great investors.”

The conversation touched on the basics of starting out: choosing your first shares or ETFs, finding the right level of risk and using insurance products like EasyProtect to safeguard what you’ve built.

Khaya, who impressed judges with his insight and composure throughout the competition, says he’s excited to have an EasyEquities account to explore.

“It’s not just about saving,” he says. “It’s about understanding money and learning how to make it work for you.”

Mmabatho and Darius agreed that the process of investing through EasyEquities is refreshingly simple and accessible.

“It’s great to see your money actually doing something,” said Darius. “It makes the idea of financial independence feel real.”

For EasyEquities, the partnership with The Insurance Apprentice is all about empowerment and showing that investing isn’t just for the wealthy or the experienced. It’s for everyone, from rookies entering the industry to seasoned pros looking to grow their wealth.

Whether you’re investing R10 or R10 000, it’s about taking that first step. And these three young leaders are already well on their way.
