Celebrating 11 years of fractional share investing with EasyEquities
We’re so proud of our friends at EasyEquities, who this week celebrate 11 years of helping more South Africans become investors. Today’s piece in Currency “The youth-driven revolution of bite-sized investing” really highlights what makes the Easy story so special.
Back in 2014, Easy introduced fractional share rights to South Africa, changing the game for anyone who wanted to invest but couldn’t afford a full share of the big names. That one idea opened the door to a whole new generation of investors. With shares costing thousands of rands, the stock market used to feel out of reach for many. EasyEquities made it possible to buy just a slice, and to build a portfolio from as little as a few bucks.
It’s no surprise that the average Easy investor is only 32 years old, with the fastest-growing group being even younger.
Currency also highlights that South Africa is in good company. Countries like Sweden, Australia and South Korea have seen similar success with fractional investing, proving that democratising access to markets is part of a global movement. As more young people take ownership of their financial futures, platforms like EasyEquities are showing what’s possible when innovation meets inclusion.
Congratulations to the Easy team on 11 years of growth, creativity and genuine impact. You’ve shown the world that small investments can make a big difference, and that when anyone can own a piece of the market, everyone wins.
