Insurance Apprentice 2016 filming under way

The insurance industry – which we love, and where we spend a lot of our time – is incredibly pro-active when it comes to grooming young talent. One of our favourite initiaitives is The Insurance Apprentice, a TV series produced by FAnews that made its debut in 2015.

It’s shot in the format of a reality show and airs on The Insurance Apprentice YouTube channel over a period of six weeks. Contestants take part in a series of insurance-related activities and steadily get eliminated until only one remains.

“The promotion of the insurance industry to young people as a fun, sexy place to work is key in attracting top talent and ensuring succession and sustainability,” says CN&CO’s Carel Nolte. “The Insurance Apprentice ticks all the boxes, which is why CN&CO is a proud and willing sponsor of the series.”

Filming of the second season started today at the FNB Conference and Learning Centre in Sandton.

“Viewers are in for a big treat this year as new twists and turns are set to bring in a whole new ball game for the apprentices – from contestants to personalities, to judges and tasks,” says Myra Knoesen of FAnews. “Having had six apprentices from very different backgrounds last year, the game has been amped this year to bring in more action, entertainment and education.”

The X Factor

The second series will see eight apprentices competing against each other in an intense five-day learning experience, to be crowned the winner of The Insurance Apprentice 2016. The prize is a trip to Lloyds of London, sponsored by Lloyds of London, and a bursary, sponsored by Inseta, to further their studies.

Three of the eight participants will also win online short-courses in a number of fields at Milpark Education.

Twists and turns

Like the first series, the apprentices face a challenging week of tasks and intense grilling from the panellists as they try to mark their spot and prove that they are the best.

Added to this, and setting the bar higher, the elimination process will be very different to the one last year. Two people will see the harsh judgment of the panellists as they face elimination possibly on day one, two or three.

Filming will end on 15 January 2016 and the series is expected to be released mid- to end-February on The Insurance Apprentice and FAnews websites, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook pages (see links below).

CN&CO joins an impressive list of sponsors for this year’s season, including ACE Insurance South Africa, Aon South Africa, FNB Insurance Brokers, Hollard, Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA), Innovation Group, Inseta, Insure Group, Lloyds of London, Marsh Africa, Milpark Education, MUA, Norton Rose Fulbright, Price Forbes, PWV Insurance Brokers, Sasria, Smashbox & La Mer South Africa and Stalker Hutchison Admiral (SHA).

“It’s awesome to see the diversity of the sponsors this year,” says Carel. “Insurers, brokers, UMAs, eductional institutions… there’s even a law firm and a cosmetics company! This is the nature of insurance, though. It is such a diverse industry that touches on every aspect of our lives and attracts specialists in a broad range of disciplines. The Insurance Apprentice project is one of the many places we see this diversity in action.”

Good luck to this year’s finalists! We can’t wait to see who gets crowned Insurance Apprentice 2016!
