BASA calls on business specialists to facilitate workshops for creative organisations

Business and Art South Africa (BASA) is a development agency working to promote and strengthen linkage between art and business in a variety of ways. CN&CO enjoys a close association with BASA, with Carel Nolte being a member of the board.

The creative and cultural industry can be a challenging one, especially with South Africa’s tough and uncertain economy. One of the projects they do to give provision to the art community in South Africa is through the BASA Established Education Programme. BASA, with support from our client, Rand Merchant Bank (RMB) has developed this programme with aim to assist established arts organisations that are facing challenges to reach their strategic goals. This is done through a series of workshops and a mentoring from business professionals.

BASA is calling upon business specialists in the areas of marketing (inclusive of market development, PR and social media), strategy, monitoring and evaluation, operations and HR, finance, and governance, who are interested in sharing their skills and knowledge to facilitate workshops for these creative organisations.

Business and Arts South Africa (BASA) has, for the past three years, coordinated and structured the BASA Established Education Programme, supported by Rand Merchant Bank (RMB). The core objective of the Programme is to bring better business skills and knowledge within a transformative
learning environment for arts organisations based geographically in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban. BASA’s intended result is that the success of the programme will ensure the long-term sustainability of the creative and cultural industries.

In its development, the programme identified gaps in levels of professional or business expertise within the arts sector. The delegates are from registered arts, culture or creative organisations that have been in operation for at least three years and are facing particular organisational or strategic challenges.

In 2017, BASA is looking for energetic and engaging business professionals who are interested in skills transfer and sharing their knowledge, as we connect business with the arts in an inspiring and practical way.
The workshops cover six main areas: marketing (inclusive of market development, PR and social media), strategy, monitoring and evaluation, operations and HR, finance, and governance.

If you are a vibrant business person skilled in one of these areas, or know someone who is, and wish to share your vision and knowledge with arts organisations voluntarily to help guide them further – apply now! Facilitators are asked to commit to offering one half day session with the delegates.

The first cycle of workshops will run between March – May 2017.
