SA choir encouraging Africa to dream with America’s Got Talent Final spot
The Ndlovu Youth Choir’s infectious energy is taking the world by storm. They are reminding South Africans of the power of standing together and encouraging the world to remember our humanity.
From its humble beginnings as an after-school activity, the choir has evolved into a truly outstanding professional ensemble. In their semi-final performance at AGT, their rendition of “Higher Love” reminded the world that we are all connected by our spirit of humanity. Love is an unbreakable force that will always conquer hate.
The choir’s AGT journey continues to excite, unite and energise South Africa and the world. Their official audition video on the AGT YouTube channel has had over 7 million views and various versions of the audition on different platforms has the total views close to 15 million.
The choir is part of the Ndlovu Care Group (www.ndlovucaregroup.co.za) and is based in the Moutse village in South Africa’s Limpopo province. It’s a remote, rural area, about two hours’ drive from Johannesburg – and about as far removed from the Los Angeles music scene as you’re likely to get.
“The AGT experience has been rollercoaster ride for all of us,” says Ralf Schmitt, musical director of the choir. “The support on social media has been phenomenal and we have had incredible messages from all around the world. Thank you to everyone who has helped share our story.”
Since its inception in 2009, the choir has profoundly affected the lives of the choristers and demonstrates the potential of any human being to achieve excellence no matter their background, education or place of birth.
The choir is part of the Ndlovu Care Group’s globally acclaimed childcare community programme. The care group’s vision is to create healthy, responsible and self-sustaining communities in rural South Africa.
“The members of the choir have embraced this opportunity with their entire beings, and have remained incredibly humble throughout the entire journey – something we can all learn from,” says Hugo Templeman, founder of the care group. “They have embodied the vision we stand for and are a beacon of hope for children around the world”.
The choir aims to ensure that a child from a disadvantaged community can enjoy the same level of musical tuition, care and opportunities as a child from a more affluent society. The choir creates a place of comfort and care – nurturing values such as self-discipline, self-confidence, tolerance, respect and leadership.
They are definitely making their infectious energy famous. Let’s join together and unite the nation with the energy and pride the choir is creating.
