TED Talk Tuesday #140 – What really happens to the plastics you throw away

Watching TED Talks is a popular pastime at CN&CO. We visit TED.com regularly to clear our heads, have a laugh or get inspired. TED Talks open our minds, spark new ways of thinking and can lead to some very interesting conversations. Each week we pick a favourite and publish it on a Tuesday, because we like how “TED Talk Tuesday” sounds. This week’s talk, which is about plastic pollution, was posted by Kurt, who says…

“There are garbage trucks of plastic being disposed into the ocean every single day”

More and more documentaries are being produced about plastic, the harm they cause to the environment and how much of it is already in our oceans. If you watched Carte Blanche on Sunday 10th November 2019, you will also see the harm microplastics cause and how much we, as humans consume weekly, nevermind ocean and wildlife.

Do you know how much plastic is already in our oceans and that by 2050, there may be more plastic in our oceans than fish?!

I found a TED talk by Emma Bryce which explains how plastics enter our oceans and a simple solution to preventing it. It will only take 4 minutes of your time, but if you are educated and you can educate another person, perhaps we can start actively saving our world, after all, we only have one.
