TED Talk Tuesday – 3 Secrets Of Resilient People

Watching TED Talks is a popular pastime at CN&CO. We visit TED.com regularly to clear our heads, have a laugh or get inspired. TED Talks open our minds, spark new ways of thinking and can lead to some very interesting conversations. Each week we pick a favourite and publish it on a Tuesday (more often than not), because we like how “TED Talk Tuesday” sounds. It’s also a way that the CN&CO team play their part on spreading ideas and helping to make the world a better place. This week’s talk is posted by Blake.

The word that comes to mind when I think about 2020 is resilience.

I was in Lesotho with Fell&Co filming the RMB National Rowing team when President Ramaphosa announced the lockdown. The team was in the last week of high altitude training before heading to to Tokyo 2020 Olympic Qualifiers.
Everything changed within seconds, but it was in this moment that I witnesses resilience. While the qualifying regattas had been cancelled and the future of the Olympics unknown, the team stepped up. They chose to keep training, to look at this as an opportunity to get stronger and faster.
I recall Lawrence Brittain saying: Same goal, different plan.

We decided to change the documentary from the Olympic journey story to a story of courage. Watch the short documentary here.

But this wasn’t the only example of resilience, week on week during lockdown I saw friends, family and businesses show what resilience is all about as they step up to the challenges day after day.

As the year comes to an end and we reflect, I thought it would be appropriate to share this Tedtalk. – 3 Secreys of resilient people.
