Can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of ‘Warriors’
5 years ago I heard Lawrence Brittain and Shaun Keeling share an inspiring talk about winning a silver medal at the Rio Olympics and ever since I have been blown away by the courage, sacrifice and dedication it takes for an athlete to make it to the Olympics.
An example of this courage and resilience is Lawrence Brittain’s story of beating cancer just 18 months before qualifying for the Rio Olympics and going on to win a silver medal.
Lawrence’s mother Danielle is not new to rowing or the sacrifice and dedication it takes to compete at the Olympics. Danielle’s four sons were introduced to rowing and the Olympic dream at a young age when her husband, David, had his eye on the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. Unfortunately he didn’t make it.
While all four sons have their South Africa colours for rowing, two have Olympic medals: Matthew and Lawrence.
Danielle became the RMB National Squad team doctor in 2011 and was inspired to write this book after Lawrence’s illness and coming back to rowing and then medalling at the Rio Games. She was told that the boys were the first brothers in South Africa to win medals at the Games. Danielle soon started writing the book Warriors – An Epic Battle for Olympic Rowing Victory, which became so much more than just their story.
Carel Nolte from CN&CO heard about the book at Shaun Keeling’s wedding and loved the story so much, he jumped at the opportunity to help get it published.
Warriors
The book tells the story of the two medals won in London and Rio by the two brothers, Matthew and Lawrence Brittain, from the perspective of their mother. It is a story about courage and survival, of winning – a story of warriors who do not give up easily.
Look for a copy at your local bookstore or order it online from Takealot. The ebook will be available soon on Amazon.
