CN&CO’s Fin-blog for the week ending 26 August 2016

Team CN&CO love financial services (among other things) and we enjoy reading about what’s happening in various quarters of the industry. Here are our favourite fin-blog picks of the week:

Colin’s Pick:

Investors have never had it so good…
“Those who are ignorant will never know they are being abused.” Remember the bad old days of upfront commissions and tortuous contracts that you never even saw? Magnus Heystek brings back some sobering memories, reminding us that we’re so much better off today.

Gabbi’s pick:

The Kid Who Revolutionized YouTube’s Tech Reviews
Marques Brownlee has become an internet celebrity and earned the label of “best technology reviewer on the planet,” but the 22-year-old’s video creations haven’t just shaped his own image: They’ve helped legitimise the entire tech community on YouTube and redefine what life on the platform can be.

Rob’s pick:

Bitcoin comes of age
In July the reward paid to Bitcoin miners was halved. The event was greeted by enthusiasts in similar fashion to that of sport fans celebrating a world cup and, like a major sporting event, the next halving is expected to occur after a four-year interval, in 2020 – unless more mining power is added and the dynamics of the network change, along with other technical variables.

Kurt’s pick:

The easiest investment mistake to make
Not staying invested. This article gives some great insight into the pitfalls of trying to time the market.

 Gianluca’s pick:

Domino’s promises pizza via drones, despite not getting approval yet.
The era of drones (and using them for deliveries) is upon us and down under in New Zealand it seems pizza’s are on the menu for aerial delivery. Our client, ITOO (In association with Hollard) have recently launched their commercial drone insurance offering in South Africa and the regulations will continue to play a fundamental role in assuring their use.
