So you think you can’t afford a thoroughbred racehorse?
First EasyEquities democratised share ownership in South Africa with its fractional share rights and really REALLY low investment fees. And now Matt de Kock from the famous Mike de Kock Racing business has taken the concept and applied it to racehorse ownership!
“Having seen what the EasyEquities team did with fractional ownership, and how it’s opened up a whole new world for equity investors, we decided to apply the concept to racehorse ownership,” says Matt. “We are offering avid racing fans the opportunity to buy into a syndicated racehorse for around R3 200!”
The horse in question is Puget Sound, a two-year-old unraced colt sired by Sail from Seattle. His mother is La Bella Donna, who was a decent racehorse in her own right, winning three races. She has produced two foals, both of which are winners. She is also sister to a group one placed mare in Brazil.
“This family is bred to win,” says Matt.
MDK Racing is offering a 50% syndicated ownership in this thoroughbred that comes with all the benefits of being in a top stable. Fifty shares of 1% each are being sold for just over R3 200 each, with MDK Racing retaining the other 50%. (See fee structure below under “What it costs”.)
“Being an MDK owner will give you the chance to spend time watching your thoroughbred grow with us at our state-of-the-art training facility in Randjesfontein,” says Matt. “Plus you’ll get to meet world-class jockeys and get a taste of the lifestyle that working with these amazing animals brings.
“You’ll also be able to join us in the parade ring before your horse races and experience the thrill of owning real horsepower as it gallops down the track.”

About Puget Sound
Puget Sound is a two-year-old, ready-to-run Cape thoroughbred. He qualifies for the R1-million race on SunMet day at Kenilworth in January as well as the Ready-to-Run Race at Turffontein in November worth R2.5-million.
Puget Sound has a great pedigree to complement his good looks and smooth action.
“Horseracing is a lifestyle investment and to us the most excitement and exhilaration money can buy. Our aim is to make this the most enjoyable experience possible for any and all racing enthusiasts, especially those people who thought they didn’t have enough money – or weren’t smart enough – to own a horse.”
Matt says that’s how he felt about investing before he discovered EasyEquities.
“Since starting my EasyEquities portfolio I have learnt that investing is easy and fun for everyone… and that’s what I want horse racing and ownership to be.
“Remember, no matter how small your shareholding is you will share 100% in the thrill of owning and racing a magnificent thoroughbred racehorse!”
Get in on the action!
“We’re expecting huge interest in this scheme,” says Matt. “While there is no limit on the number of shares you can buy, we would like to ensure ownership for as many people as possible. Since there are only 50 shares available, we cannot guarantee that you’ll get all the shares you ask for. But we will try to accommodate everyone on a first-come, first-served basis.”
