More glory for RMB National Squad’s Kirsten McCann

Two legendary South African sportswomen, Kirsten McCann and Caster Semenya at the South African Sports Awards dinner

Not only did Kirsten McCann win a gold at the world rowing champs in the USA in September, she has also won the hearts and support of thousands of South Africans. On 13 November 2017, Kirsten won a public vote to be nominated as a finalist for the World Rowing Awards. Kirsten was the only South African nominated, entrenching South Africa’s position on the world rowing map. She is up for the title World Rowing Female Crew of the Year against crews from Lithuania, Italy, the Netherlands, Romania and Switzerland.

Last year our national rowing coach, Roger Barrow, won the award for the world’s number one rowing coach. Let’s hope Kirsten follows in his winning footsteps this year! We’ll find out on 8 December when the winners are announced in London.

But that’s not all! The day before her World Rowing Awards nomination, Kirsten attended the South African Sports Awards dinner, where she was a finalist for sportswoman of the year. Although Kirsten didn’t win the title, we are very proud of the winner, Caster Semenya.
