Ndlovu Youth Choir Nelson Mandela Square Oct 2018

A South African story – embracing possibilities

Growing up, you are encouraged to dream and think about what you want to be when you grow up. We wonder how many of the choristers at the Ndlovu Youth Choir thought that one day they would be standing on the stage of one of, if not the biggest, talent showcases in the world…

As the Ndlovu Youth Choir prepare to take to the stage for their next America’s Got Talent Performance, we are taking some time to reflect on the infectious energy the choir is sharing with the world.

The choir is based in the Moutse village in South Africa’s Limpopo province. It’s a remote, rural area, about two hours’ drive from Johannesburg – a fair distance from the Hollywood studios.

Since its inception in 2009, the choir has profoundly affected the lives of the choristers and demonstrates the potential of any human being to achieve excellence no matter their background, education or place of birth. From its humble beginnings as an after-school activity the choir has evolved into a truly outstanding professional ensemble.

The choir is part of the Ndlovu Care Group’s globally acclaimed childcare community programme. The care group’s vision is “Creating healthy, responsible and self-sustaining communities in rural South Africa”.

With the choir having spent time in America this year, we were reminded of a famous South African who is an incredible comedian. We are of course talking about Trevor Noah. He is one of the most successful comedians in Africa and is the host of the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning The Daily Show on Comedy Central.

South African’s are phenomenal people – talented, kind, and willing to take on a challenge. Both the Ndlovu Youth Choir and Trevor’s achievements are strong messages for us all to embrace possibilities, chase opportunities, spread energy, and to think bigger. There are many other stories of South Africans who are doing great things, these are just two examples of what is possible.

The choir have been recognised and supported by many South Africa’s. Their journey is just beginning, thank you to everyone who has helped to share and spread the energy they are bringing to the world.

We partnered with the Ndlovu Youth Choir in October last year to manage and assist with their digital marketing and PR – and so far we’ve loved every minute! When we learned that the choir had been asked to audition for Season 14 of America’s Got Talent (AGT) we were ecstatic and couldn’t wait to share the news with you. Fast forward a few months and they are in Hollywood!

As South African’s we aren’t eligible to vote for our favourite AGT act. However, if you have friends, family, or if you live in the US of A you can vote. The Voting Methods are open to viewers located in the fifty United States, including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico (collectively, “Geographic Area”) who are thirteen years of age or older.

All the voting info/voting method information is now live on the NBC website. You can find them here:

If you would like to book the choir please contact Ralf Schmitt via email (hello@ndlovu.com). They also perform internationally, for further details please visit their website here.

Best of luck to the choristers as you take to the stage this evening and thank you for the energy that you are sharing to unite a nation! To listen to more of their songs you can subscribe to their YouTube channel here.

  • Having read this I believed it was rather informative.
I appreciate you spending some time and energy to put this information together.
I once again find myself spending a significant amount
of time both reading and posting comments. But so what, it was still worth it!
