The company we keep – Verona Goslett

The Company We Keep is a column on the CN&CO blog that profiles some of the most interesting people in our networks. Here we share the details of the lives of people we know, showcasing the extraordinary diversity of our society and proving that people truly are at the heart of everything we do.

As this is my first “The Company We Keep” blog I struggled to find the right person to feature as I’m surrounded by so many amazing people, personally and professionally. I sat down after one of our virtual events this morning and as I opened YouTube I saw Verona Goslett’s audition video for The Voice South Africa. This made me realise that she woud be the person I featured on this blog today.

Our story starts in 2005 in a small town called Meyerton. I had moved schools and was a bit lost. Verona included me in her group of friends and as they say the rest is history. Today, more than 15 years later, we are still friends and boy have we been through a lot of great experiences over the years!

To describe Verona Goslett’s is quite tricky. She is a singer, radio presenter, TV presenter, journalist, social media specialist and this list goes on…

Verona’s aunt discovered Verona’s talent for singing at the age of four and advised her mom to send Verona for singing lessons. Verona joined Heidi Schoeman’s studio shortly after that and her singing capabilities have grown stronger ever since.

During her school years she competed in various eisteddfods and even completed a Trinity Concert certificate. She was a member of the CollaVocé youth choir for four years where she had the opportunity to compete in international choir competitions.

After school Verona obtained an honours degree in journalism and during this time the people of South Africa got to know her better as the character Brioney on the popular SABC 2 soapie, 7de Laan.

Verona was a contestant on the KykNet reality series “Jy is my Liefling” where she came second and this gave her great exposure to explore the music industry.

In 2014 Verona and I took a brave step and produced our very own TV show called “Vir Ewig & Altyd”. This was a massive learning curve for us as we had to produce, edit and present the show. This gave us a good foundation for the work we both do today.

Currently Verona works for the popular magazine “Wild & Jag” where she produces the digital content and manages their social networks. Verona also has her own company called Vergo Communication, where she does social media management, marketing and PR for her clients.

Her latest single “Voorwaardes” was launched this week and was a special song she wrote for her fiancé. They were set to get married 4 April but due to the COVID-19 lockdown had be postpone the big event to later this year. As Verona’s “Man”- of honour I helped her plan this big day and we were all sad when the wedding had to be postponed.

Verona always has a positive outlook on life and it is amazing to see what she has accomplished in her life so far. Her kindness and unique way of approaching things makes her stand out and will certainly take her far in life.

The below images describe our friendship so well. We will dance through life, even when it rains.

True friendship is the key in these uncertain times. We need to cherish the people in our lives and appreciate every minute we get to share with them.
