Turn your recycling into shares with Imagined Earth and EasyEquities
An exciting partnership between Imagined Earth and EasyEquities, two CN&CO partners, now allows you to convert the money that you earn from recycling into share ownership. It’s a world first and an initiative that we are incredibly excited about.
EasyEquities INVSTRS, by nature, have an eye on sustainability. By buying shares with a long-term view, they’re putting some of their valuable resources aside for the future. Imagine if you could combine the sustainability of investing with the sustainability of waste recycling.
But wait… you can! Thanks to a partnership between EasyEquities and Imagined Earth, you are now able to turn your recycling into shares – a world first! Here’s how it works:
Imagined Earth has a number of Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) that the public can use in both Johannesburg and Cape Town that reward you for recycling. They are also working hard to expand the offering to more locations in the country. Each item you recycle through the reverse vending machine earns you cash in your Imagined Earth wallet, which can be used for a number of things – including buying shares through EasyEquities.
“We have already seen thousands of rands being invested by our INVSTRS since the partnership began a couple of months ago,” says EasyEquities chief marketing officer and one of the founding partners are CN&CO, Carel Nolte. “It’s fantastic to see how environmentally and financially savvy our investor community is. We’ve always said how smart our Easy community is.”
The Imagined Earth system works off product bar codes. You simply scan the barcode with the Imagined Earth app and it tells you if the piece of packaging waste is able to be recycled through the RVMs or not. You can then take all your recyclable material to your nearest RVM and turn your waste into shares on EasyEquities.
It’s incentivising good behaviour, giving you cash back for your waste and providing you with a convenient recycling solution so you can do your bit to save the planet.
Imagined Earth waste collection points are located in Joburg at Sandton City, Pick n Pay on Nicol, Shell Hyde Park and Shell Parkhurst, and in Cape Town at the V&A Waterfront, Shell at Taronga Motors, Pick n Pay Camps Bay and Woolworths Palmyra Junction.
Here’s a photo of one of their latest RVM instalments in the Foodcourt at Sandton City in Johannesburg.
