I wish someone had told me how easy it is to register to vote

“I wish someone had told me” is a series of posts that feed into our inquisitive nature at CN&CO. Each week we hear from someone in our network about something interesting or surprising that’s recently happened or occurred to them – or lessons they learnt. These blogs are a way to pay it forward and form part of CN&CO’s belief that the world can be a better place – and we all have a responsibility to make it so. This week’s post is by Josephine Emma Hunt Holley Dougall.

How easy it is to change your voting address or register as a first-time voter! All you need is a good photograph of your barcoded ID book or card, cell phone reception and a bit of data or Wi-Fi!

It seriously takes a few minutes. And frankly, you lose your God-given right to moan about our beautiful, albeit a little bit ver-kukta country if you DON’T vote! And we all know how much we love a good old moan about potholes and Eskom!

Voting, and encouraging those around you to vote, is really the only way we can make positive change. Have conversations with colleagues, staff, friends, neighbours. Let’s make sure, anyone making their mark next year does so with intention, and all the facts, rather than habit.

Read the manifestos of the different parties and decide which one resonates most with you. Please do it. Do it now.
