TED Talk Tuesday #107: Is your to do list making you nuts?
Watching TED Talks is a popular pastime at CN&CO. We visit TED.com regularly to clear our heads, have a laugh or get inspired. TED Talks open our minds, spark new ways of thinking and can lead to some very interesting conversations. Each week we pick a favourite and publish it on a Tuesday, because we like how “TED Talk Tuesday” sounds. This week’s talk was posted by CN&CO admin goddess (some say, goddess of everything) Penny. Here’s why she chose it.
I don’t watch a lot of TED talks but having to write this blog means that I have started engaging more with all that TED has to offer. I came across an article (yes, TED has talks, conferences, articles, podcasts, books and more – that I never knew about) by Adam Grant – Is your to do list making you nuts?
The article reminded me of Carel and how he deals with his exceptionally busy life! After working as his PA for the last couple of years, I have realised that he definitely does take things off his list forever – as soon as they are completed (unlike me – I seem to hang onto items on my list). Carel is always saying to me, “Take that off the list now!” And while Carel often drives me insane (put up your hand if you agree?!) I do think there is value in a list, planning, actioning and removing the item once done. I am pleased that my TED Talk contribution is now off my list.
