JFF and Real Time: Vote for your favourite short film

Apart from the amazing line-up of local and international films at this year’s Jozi Film Festival (JFF) there’s also a competition that’s being run in partnership with Discovery’s Real Time channel.

Earlier this year the JFF issued an Africa-wide call for 3-5 minute films on the theme: “Real Stories Told By Real People About Real Lives”. The submissions have been terrific.

“We had hundreds of entries from across Africa,” says JFF co-founder and organiser, Lisa Henry. “It was really difficult to narrow the selection down to the top 20!

“We further narrowed the selection down to a top six, which are open for public vote on the Jozi Film Festival website.”

The winner, as per the public vote, will receive $2 500, second place $1 000 and third place, $750, and be broadcast on Real Time, alongside all the films shortlisted by the JFF and Discovery jury.

CN&CO’s Colin Ford says he had a hard time choosing his favourite.

“The films all tell very touching and heartfelt stories,” he says. “And because the films are all so short, it’s easy to watch them all in one sitting. I spent less than half an hour watching them all – and that was the easy part! The tough part was selecting a favourite.”

The Jozi Film Festival takes place from 3 to 6 October at Nu Metro Hyde Park, the Bioscope Independent Cinema in Maboneng and the Delta Park Environmental Centre.

“We are extremely grateful to Discovery’s Real Time channel for choosing the JFF to host a competition of this magnitude,” says Lisa. “We also appreciate the support from our other sponsors and supporters Chubb Insurance, EasyEquities, Africa Magic Channel, CN&CO, Mushroom Media, Lemon Sawdust and Left Hand Films.”
