We are surrounded by people who either bring us up or pull us down. For me, Prudence Hoko, or Prudy as she is better known, is one of those people who has recently brought positivity into my life. As a hard working single mother of two boys, her story really resonates with me as I was one of two boys brought up by a hard working single mother.
I met Prudence this year, 2023, after she joined Ami Underwriting Managers (a short term underwriting manager, underwritten by Lombard Insurance), as our claims manager (and overall superstar). While I have only known her for a few months, she has inspired me with her dedication, compassion and driven attitude. In this short blog, I want to share with you my informal Q&A with her and some of the lessons I’ve learned from her.
Prudence Hoko is a daughter, mother, colleague and a powerful woman. When asked to describe what she does in a day, she simply says, “I strive to deliver excellent service daily.” Her dedication to her work is evident in the way she approaches her job every day. She sees herself as a friend and client champion, helping them during difficult times and being empathetic and understanding.
When asked about which superpower she would choose most, Prudence chose Wonder Woman’s strength and speed, coupled with the ability to always be there and present. Her love for her family is evident in her words, as she shared her wish to do more and give more to her mother, who has done her best to raise her. If I may add, she has done a phenomenal job! As mentioned, Prudence is a single mother of two boys, aged 13 and 6, and they are her world. She spends all her spare time with them, doing what they want to do, and being the best mother she can be. This serves as another reminder of my mother’s bond with my brother and me.
For me, Prudy’s story (which I have made very brief) is one of strength, resilience, and love. As a single mother of two boys, from very humble beginnings, and skilfully managing the balance of her demanding job with raising her children plus still smiling and doing it all with finesse, she is definitely company I like to keep. Her dedication and passion to her family and work are inspiring and her story is a reminder that with hard work, determination, and love, anything is possible, and we can achieve great things, even in the face of adversity.
She is a Wonder Woman in my eyes. Keep inspiring, Prudy!
