The company we keep: Parkview Pre-Primary

“I wish someone had told me” is a series of posts that feed into our inquisitive nature at CN&CO. Each week we hear from someone in our network about something interesting or surprising that’s recently happened or occurred to them – or lessons they learnt. These blogs are a way to pay it forward and form part of CN&CO’s belief that the world can be a better place – and we all have a responsibility to make it so. This week’s post is by Josie Dougall.

Mornings are generally chaos for parents of small kids. Feeding, dressing, cleaning, preparing for a day at school, whilst still trying to exercise, clean yourself, dress and feed, before tearing out of the house with library books, dress up themes adhered too, show and tell item considered to theme… it’s a 90-minute-high speed high stress exhilarating ride!

But then I turn into Kilkenny Drive Parkview, from 150m out I can see the bright colours and hear the music pumping, the children laughing, the teachers chatting and the bubbles drifting through the melee of happy faces.

Parkview Pre-Primary and the teachers there are like family. You arrive at the beautifully crafted verge, bursting with rainbows, stars, ladybugs, trains, miniature houses, bright flowers, with the whole staff team waiting at the front gate, music plays, they chat and laugh amongst themselves and the energy and love that hits you from 200m away just makes my day. Every single day.

I was chatting with another mum the other day, and she said, arriving at Parkview PP is the happiest part of my day.

I watched a guy giving life advice on Instagram the other day. The gist of what he was saying is that life is not about sipping margaritas on a beach in Jamaica, those things seldom happen. Life is about how you greet your partner every single day. How you conduct yourself at the family dinner table every single night. These little things are not little at all, they are the big things that make up the happiness in your life, and they have a rippling effect that permeates through the rest of your life. I so believe in this: Life’s happiness is what happens to you every day, it happens in the community around you. It’s not buying the dream car or taking the dream trip. Those things are great but on the whole they don’t make you happy.

So, I really do feel so blessed and grateful for the team at Parkview Pre-Primary – who make up a part of my community and make the start to each of my days, so happy.

Debbie, Nthabi, Leanne, Jennine, Ntombi, Lori, Maryke, thank you all for your passion, the love for what you do is inspiring. Thank you for creating magic for my children every day.

Have a look at this incredible verge, it is inspired by the children, and they all get stuck in to create this masterpiece. It forms part of the Parkview Residents’ Association’s Summer Pavement Competition. If Parkview Pre-Primary wins the R2000 first prize, it goes directly into their bursary fund, allowing children who can’t afford the fees to experience the magic of the school and get the best head start in life.

The best part is, every single material used is recycled and upcycled. This school places a huge emphasis on educating about environmental awareness from a very young age.
