Uluntu Project

Supporting education and future generations in St Francis Bay – The Uluntu Project gives back

The act of giving.

Giving is different for everyone; it comes in different shapes and forms. Giving doesn’t necessarily need to involve money and while in many instances it does, giving can be in the shape of providing someone your time or just being there when a mate, family member, or the broader community needs you.

During the December holidays in St Francis Bay, Murray Charter and I have made an effort to hosted an annual St Francis Bay Bowls Day, raising funds for the local community and encouraging people to give back. In 2019 we finalised the creation of the Uluntu Project and a broader vision that received support from other festive seasons events.

December 2020 was a little different, for reasons outside of our control and while we couldn’t take to the bowling greens, we still wanted to support the broader St Francis Bay community in any way that we could.

Talhado Montessori Preschool was established in 2017 by Cathryn Hempel as a perpetuation to Talhado Children’s Haven, which was established by Leslie Moore in 1998. The Pre-Primary Montesssori School schools roughly 90 underprivileged 3-6 year olds, as well as providing and after care centre for approximately 300 primary school children ages 5 to 15.

Over the last 3 years we have supported the Talhado Children’s Haven and thanks to the generous donations received we have managed to upgrade the playground at the school, provide classroom refurbishments and thanks to the December 2020 donation of just over R25 000 we were able to provide the stationery requirements for the 2021 school year.

Uluntu means community in IsiXhosa.

The world needs more community and for people to stand together, while physically separated, to address the problems we face. As the world, continues to combat the spread of COVID-19 we have been reflecting on what community means. Together we can achieve far more than if we tackle things on our own.

By contributing and donating to the Uluntu Project you have helped to change lives of the St Francis Bay community and positively influence the development of the next generation of leaders in South Africa. From both Murray and me, thank you!
